Resumen:

Finding a new indication for a drug that is approved for clinical use or that is in advanced clinical stages is an attractive strategy to accelerate drug discovery by lowering the costs. Drug repurposing is gaining particular interest in the epigenetics field. Herein, the major goals, basis, and successful cases of drug repurposing are discussed. Novel strategies to perform drug repurposing are presented with special emphasis on computational approaches applied for epigenetic targets. Advantages, limitations, and representative examples of computer-aided drug repurposing for epigenetic targets are analyzed. © 2016 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
