Resumen:

After appropriate adjustments, spin foam models can be used as effective theories. We present a study of abelian gauge theory which points out what adjustments are necessary in usual spin foam models. The study is carried out in a manner that prepares the path for the extension to non abelian gauge fields. This work finds agreement with earlier results of Oriti et al. on a spin foam model for two dimensional gravity, and Sorkin?s discrete model for electromagnetism. © 2015, World Scientific.
