Resumen:

Talking about environmental impacts is directly related to the instrument of environmental policy, management and everything that has to do with the evaluation process, mitigation, prevention, correction and hence the set of tools that enable specialists to present an environmental impact that brings all economic activity within the national territory. In the present work it is not the case. Rather we refer to what is the impact and consequences that caused urban sprawl, from an overview to a particular view, taking as a reference the Federal District, Mexico. The environmental, economic and urban impact items from the increase of the population, generating inequalities between cities of different size, and the growth of informal settlements by the lack of job opportunities and the abandonment of the field, where the distinction between urban and rural has been diluted. It is counterproductive to talk about economic indicators pointing achievements and targets set within a framework of economic policy when contradictions are to be seen in the development environment, such as unemployment, poverty, generation of solid waste, the impact cause heat islands, water consumption, settlements, among other indicators. That is, the problems are concentrated in urban cities. This diagnosis makes a critical urban environmental impact from the macro to the micro aspect of the location, it shows that past experiences help us take into account several elements that historically give us guidelines for action to reverse the overwhelming urban growth.
