Resumen:

In the design of new drug delivery systems, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have received increasing attention as promising nanocarriers, particularly, for the possibility to be easily conjugated with multiple bioactive molecules. In this way, this chapter describes the diverse properties and strategies of modification employed for CNTs in order to improve their use in drug delivery, focusing on their application as drug delivery systems for diverse therapies such as antimicrobials, anti-inflammatories, antioxidants, and anti-hypertensive. Finally, we covered the most recent studies of the toxicity of CNTs and the future aspects for improving the biocompatibility of these promising materials. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
