Resumen:

Multicomponent reactions have proved to be an efficient approach for synthesizing a wide variety of complex molecules due to their remarkable atom economy, minimal waste generation, and high selectivity. With the emergence of processes catalyzed by transition metals, the possibilities for the design and development of novel multicomponent reactions employing unreactive substrates as starting materials have increased notably. Consequently, the field has been a matter of great interest over the past decades. This chapter focuses on the recent advances made in multicomponent reactions built upon transition metal catalysis directed toward the synthesis of heterocycles. Incorporation of small molecules such as CO 2 or CO, dipolar cycloaddition reactions, CH bond functionalization, and cross-coupling reactions involving aryl halides arise as the most common strategies for the rapid generation of heterocyclic arrays. Literature covered comprises from 2015 up to 2020. Although most of the protocols summarized in this chapter are processes catalyzed by Pd or Cu, examples of catalytic systems based on Ti, Fe, Ru, and Rh are also described. © 2022 WILEY-VCH GmbH, Boschstr. 12, 69469 Weinheim, Germany.
