Resumen:

The characteristics of grain boundary (GB) ensemble in as-cast and annealed Fe-Al alloy corresponding to the stoichiometric B2 composition are analyzed. The clustering of grains sharing a common surface normal related to the radial direction of the rod sample is observed. The X-ray examination of an orientation of individual grains reveals that GBs inside the clusters are linked with low-angle GBs whereas random GBs occur at periphery. The probability of clustering of low-angle GBs in random polycrystal is estimated by computer simulation of GB spatial distribution in aggregate of close packed Kelvin polyhedra.A comparison of these data with experimental results shows that special physical reasons rather thanstatistically random gathering of low-angle GBs takes place in material under investigation. A predominance of intergranular fracture propagated along external GBs of clusters preferentially is observed in the specimens which have been forged. © 1996 by OPA (Overseas Publishers Association).
