Resumen:

Recent research on forced migration has begun to analyze the importance of technologies as one of the most relevant tools used by migrants before migrating and upon arrival at their destination. To a lesser extent, the impact of smartphones and social media during irregular transit has been investigated. In this chapter, it is the TikTokers in the context of forced migration whom we follow through their videos, their virality, their emotions, and their way of connecting and communicating their passage through the Darien Gap while tracing their next steps on the migratory route to Central and North America. This chapter aims to analyze the use of TikTok by young Venezuelans who crossed the Darien between August 2022 and April 2023. The goal is to understand the potential of digital rhetoric, such as self-expression and representation, participation, and creative collaboration, in the testimonies shared on this social network. The research found that young Venezuelans create survival strategies such as gaining more access to information, digital solidarity, and support networks during transit, which takes place in contexts of violence and enormous risks to life and health. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Rubria Rocha de Luna and Maricruz Castro Ricalde; individual chapters, the contributors.
