Resumen:

The Guadalajara Light Rail Line 3 project included a tunnel close to or under essential buildings, including the Guadalajara Cathedral. To this end, an assessment was made of the possible settlements produced both by the construction of the tunnel and the construction of the protective measures. To analyze settlements and the effectiveness of the protective measures, the characteristics of the Cathedral and those of the tunnel's construction procedures and the protective measures were modeled approximately. For this purpose, three-dimensional numerical models were created using the finite element program PLAXIS 3D, to incorporate the main factors that could affect the structural integrity of the Cathedral and the Sagrario church. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
